A Walk Through History
Featuring half-timbered buildings, almost complete city walls and a wealth of Roman heritage, beautiful Chester sits by the border with Wales.
The southernmost gate of the walls overlooks the River Dee, and the road leading north is one of 4 in the city to follow the original Roman roads. To the east, the Roman Gardens include a reconstructed underfloor heating system.
Nearby Grosvenor Park has remains of a stone Roman amphitheatre, thought to have been built on the world’s largest wooden amphitheatre at the time. Over the river in the suburb of Handbridge is a 2nd-century shrine to Minerva, and an informative display in the Grosvenor Museum provides the background to all this heritage.
In the west is Chester Racecourse and nearby are the medieval castle remains. More medieval buildings line the cobbled city centre streets. Some of these are The Rows, black-and-white timbered buildings housing 2 levels of shops. Other shopping options are the indoor market by the cathedral, and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village in Ellesmere Port to the north. The road out there passes Chester Zoo, one of the UK’s best zoos.
Booking.com’s range of Chester accommodation includes hotels with swimming pools, guest houses by the train station and B&Bs with parking near Chester Airport.

The city is vegan friendly, as well as the people being friendly. All historic sites are within walking distance, there is a sightseeing bus that does a tour with added river cruise as part of the price. Chester is still being excavated due to new architectural findings.
The Visitor centre is well located, near to the cathedral, and the staff are very helpful.
There are many places to eat, some restaurant chains and many local businesses.

I recommend going to the Orthodox church to celebrate the Greek Easter this year it was brilliant, each year it seems to get better and better. I also recommend staying at the MacDonalds New Blossom hotel which is centrally appointed and easy to get to the church via the No:16 bus the hotel has good facilities and does a variety of full English cooked breakfasts it also has good Wi-Fi in each room and good bathing facilities. At an reasonable price. If you still have time board the tour bus and also go for a river trip as well as an good place for shopping and restaurants.

Beautiful Roman city.
Beautiful Roman city. People friendly and helpful, as well as caring. I found the people to be unusually warm and friendly for a UK city tbh. I would return to Chester for this reason! Also, a classy city. Lots of good shops, wine bars, etc.
The location was perfect for our two night stay. Chester has plenty to see/do that can be done walking or by bus. Good shopping and cafes/restaurants.
The lady on reception on arrival and the next day was very helpful with recommendations for where to eat and without asking provided me with an extra sheet as the duvet was too hot.
The hotel was quiet but I did ensure that my booking did not coincide with a race day or weekend knowing (from experience) that you won't get much sleep.
Exceeded my expectations - quality finishes and furnishing everywhere, quiet, spacious, full of charm and elegance beyond what is customary. Thick, large towels and quality wooden hangers in the wardrobe. Lovely and large sitting room to gather in outside of room.
Perfect location to walk into Chester or to village shops and restaurants. Owners are on premises and keep things to a high level. Delicious and fast breakfast service. Parking was good.
A modern hotel in a good location for exploring Chester. The staff were friendly and helpful. A nice room with good facilities (an iron and ironing board were included). The bed was very comfortable. Complimentary soft drinks/water were in the fridge. Breakfast wasn't included with our room booking but the bar and restaurant area looked inviting. . Outside seating area at the front of the hotel (facing a main road).
The room was amazing, clean, beautifully presented and on site car park too
We needed extra milk so they provided us some in a flask to keep cool.
Breakfast was really nice, I chose the full English, very good quality.
5 min walk from hotel to the city centre - superb location! Just walk along the river and then you are at bottom of Chester
Cannot wait to book at this hotel again and was at a very good price
Stopped at the Mill Hotel for a short break. Great location to explore Chester City centre within 5 minutes walking distance. The room was spacious and clean. The check in process was easy, and the reception staff were pleasant and helpful. Having parking available at the hotel so close to the centre was an added bonus. Good quality and plentiful breakfast.
Location was perfect close to the city centre and main roads. Hotel was fantastic, staff helped us out when we had a problem. Window was broke in our room so we where upgraded to a large family room which was brilliant. Breakfast really tasty plenty of choice for everyone. Would recommend and will definitely stay again when back in Chester
The staff at Leonardo was amazing! Every request was promptly answered with a smile & great personality. Accommodations were comfortable & clean. Location perfect with many restaurants nearby. Chester has been the highlight of our trip & we are hoping to return in the future. I would recommend this hotel for every reason possible.
The hotel was warm and welcoming, the staff friendly and helpful. As a diagnosed Coeliac my diet was catered for without any problems. The food was lovely and the dining room was well organized. The pool and spa were clean and the facilities were excellent. The location was perfect for walking into Chester.
The hotel was located right next to Chester Race Course which we were visiting. It was clean and tidy and exceptionally quiet given it's location next to a busy road. A very good car park under the hotel, which was very reasonably priced, given that we were staying in the city centre.
The location is great for Chester city centre. Quite close to what seems to be the main restaurant quarter. Parking is very close and a good rate of £5.00 per day.. The apartment is excellent, really good value considering it is only about £20 more a night compared with a hotel.
The hotel was located in close proximity to Chester city centre which was ideal for what we wanted. Most staff were joyous and very helpful but I reiterate, most!
The breakfast was good and there was a good choice available.
Lovely traditional family hotel. Located on the outskirt of Chester, very quick drive to the Cheshire Oaks, Chester Zoo, and the city centre. Facilities are a bit old, but still okay to use. Breakfast was great.
Excellent location for Chester City centre, and a nice high street nearby. The hotel bar was comfortable and friendly with a good selection of cask ale on offer . Breakfast was well cooked and nicely presented.
